International & Comparative Librarianship

Definition

It is considered an important field in Library and Information Science Discipline, and it is defined by " Froskett, D.J., 1976" as : The field of Library and Information Science, where different systems are being tested from different sides like: thier composition, work and, thier technical attitudes .. all to define thier special characters within a border that is applicable on all systems,, also studying the role of each criteria affecting the development of the system and applying a comparison between one system and another.

The importance of comparative studies


Comparative Studies have :
1- Affected the scientific method of research (Danton, J.P. 1976)
2- Cleared the similarities and differences between library science profession in different countries. (Krzys, S.R., 1983)

Types of Comparative Studies

- Area Studies
- Cross National or Cross Cultural Studies.
- Case Studies

Full detailed information about Inter. & Comparative Librarianship are illustrated in Dr. Ahmad Bader's Book " An Introduction to Intr. & Comparative Librarianship" , his book is the first to discuss this subject in Arabic language, and in my opinion it represents a small encyclopedia that covers every thing about Intr. & Comparative Librarianship.
