Al-Khayyam
Omar Al_Khayyam, is a famous Persian poet, that was born and died in Nishapur. He was a mathematician and an astronomist, but he became famous for his yearly Persian calendar & Ruba'iyat...
Today I would like to bring you an English translation of some Ruba'iyat, that was done by Peter Avery & john Heath-stubbs
Al-Khayyam said in his Ruba'iyat :
Dreaming when Dawn's left hand was in the sky.
I heard a voice within the Tavern cry.
Awake my little ones, and fill the cup.
Before life's Liquor in its cup be dry.
Before you and I did, night & day existed.
The revolving heavens were busy, where you set your foot on the face of the ground was the pupil of the eye of a sweetheart
.
My back is bent by time, all my affairs go awry, life was ready to depart, I said, do not go ...
it replied, what else can I do, if the house is falling down?
If chance supplied a loaf of white bread, two casks of wine & a leg of mutton, in the corner of a garden with a tulip cheeked girl. They'd be enjoyment no sultan could out do..
Al-Khayyam was known for his handsomeness... and good looking..
Reading about Al-Khayyam is an interesting journey to me.. specially when mentioning his rich scientific life.I advice you dear friends to take a look on his life, works, and Ruba'iyat.

Thank you Alyaa for your e-mail on Omar Khayyam. It was some thirty years ago that I had read the English Translation of some of his Rubaiyat. My most favourite remains:
A book of Verses underneath the bough,
A jug of wine, a loaf of bread, and thou,
Beside me singing in the wilderness,
O the wilderness were Paradise enow!
