Library Etiquette

Since we are approaching Eid Al-Fitr, I'd like to discuss with you an interesting and light topic "Library Etiquette".

1. In your own point of view, what can be considered library etiquette?

2. How do we educate users about this?

3. How does it affect the library and its users?

4. Any examples, ideas, or experiences?

library etiguette starts in my opinion: 1- Users should be discipline and switch off thier mobiles.
2- Be polite to the staff when asking for information.
3- Return the books in the good condition it was before borrowed
4- Do not re-shelf books, if finished leave them on the desk.
5- Do not argue about fines for lost items, or late returning those rules are nonnegotiable, and it is approved by the administration.

To educate users is through having an orientation around the library explaining the rules clearly and make sure the users listen.

Thanks Haya and Yaqoub for the information. Well, I've never been to a library where one can find guides and brochures about "Library Etiquette", rather you'l find something like "instructions" which might look less pleasant to some users. I personally find it more appealing to have guides, brochures, bookmarks ..etc that teach users these principles about how to use the library and the material...

When I read your topic Asma I remembered the college of education library and smiled. I think that library etiquette is one part of the whole social etiquette or behavior, if we want it to be used we must educate people on how to use it. When everybody begins 2 build main behavioral bases in his/her character then applying any type of etiquette would be easy. So, it is an educational matter at first.
Back to Education Library, what I remember about it is torn books, small moving restaurants and loud laughs! Actually, I don't remember any thing that has to do with etiquette!
What I suggest is that all basic courses that are provided for undergraduated must teach a brief part about library etiquette in order to change those unexcepted behaviors.
