Al-Zaina Shams

AL_Zaina Shams

I had an opportunity to visit the American University of Kuwait, when I was invited to attend a poetry night, where some young poets presented some of there literature work.
They were all great poets, but the most amazing one of them was the 13 years old poet "AL_Zaina Shams" … who appeared with her baby appearance and shy glance, and recited some of her poems.
I was amazed with that skillful talented young Shams.. and at that night I had the chance to get her book : "Young Poems for all ages"
I went through the book, and actually I had read it from cover to cover. During my reading journey I tried to discover Shams's mind, and get into the deepest part of her heart and brain to touch the feelings and wisdom behind her poems.
With her simple way of writing she takes you to the deepest part of her pure soul, and expresses different feelings , happiness or sadness, pain or joy, approval or rejection of some peoples principles, or sympathizing with other suffering people.
"As lonely as a prisoner trapped I am, Squealing for a friend to understand.. what I don't, Will I find this friend? I guess I won't"

Against to loneness she expresses happiness and joy, when saying…

" The sun is Yellow
It felts so mellow
The sea is blue
It reminds me of you.."

As a human being and as a teenager, who falls in love…
"His love runs through my veins
It ties me to so many chains
I see him every time it rains
His picture in my head never fades
His voice, his smell and his face.. "

And as a human she faces painful moments..

" Pain stays
Pain goes
It has many reasons
It has its own shows
It makes you soft
It makes you cry
It makes you stronger
But never Shy .. "

As a straight person who has basic principles in life against evil actions, she shouts against Racism …
" Hateful stares
Pitiful glares
I don't know why?
It's a reason to cry
It's so unfair, for someone to compare
Color or Shapes … "

In another place she was affected by the natural catastrophe "Tsunami" that took a lot of people's lives…

" The waves came
The tides came
People were running around
People were lying on the ground
They were scared , they were dared
It was tough, It was cruel, It was rough
Some survived , some didn't"

You must not leave this fascinating poetry book without reading it.. it is an honor to have such a little Kuwaiti poet, who has these humane feelings and great philosophic opinions.
